Cancellation Policy
Please note my policies below:
● Payment must be made before each lesson takes place. No exceptions. This means
check or cash in hand, or electronic payment sent and received when you arrive for
lessons.
● Any lesson cancellations outside of National Holidays by the student or parent with notice via email, phone call, or
text message 24 hours or farther in advance will be moved to another day to make up
the time with no additional charge. This will allow me time to move the other students up
to that time slot. I will also hold myself accountable to the same policy as a teacher.
● Day-of cancellations or no-call-no-shows are not accepted except for in cases of true
emergency. In the case of a day-of, or no-call-no-show cancellation an invoice requiring
payment will be sent accordingly for lessons to continue. Any advance/monthly payment
will be counted for that lesson slot as well.
● For in-person lessons, if for any reason I suspect you to be sick in any way, the week’s
lesson will be ended, payment will not be refunded or counted towards the next lesson,
and lessons will continue as normal the following week.
● If you or your student’s instrument is not in working order outside of basic maintenance;
missing mouthpiece, missing instrument, missing parts, or requiring professional repair if
I deem necessary, I will treat the situation with the same policy as if the student were
sick. It does not matter if you are healthy if the instrument does not function. (Basic
maintenance means valves/slides needing lubricated.) I do not have replacement parts,
instruments, or mouthpieces on hand, so please plan accordingly if repairs are needed
for your instrument.
- Make sure your student’s instrument is of good quality from a reputable brand. No Amazon-purchased instruments. It is ALWAYS better to purchase a good quality USED instrument than a poor quality new one due to parts availability and cost. Good student-model instrument brands include: Yamaha, Vincent Bach, CG Conn, King, Olds, Blessing, Carol Brass. If your student is at an advanced level, please discuss with me about upgrading to a professional model or custom instrument.
- Make sure your student’s mouthpiece, maintenance equipment like oils and greases are all good quality from a reputable brand. Good standard mouthpieces are Vincent Bach, Schilke, or Yamaha. Good instrument lubricants to use would be Monster Oils, Ultra Pure oils, Yamaha trombone slide lubricant.
Thank you for your time and commitment to making lessons as enjoyable as possible!

With 35 years of continuous drumming/performing and recording I still consider my drumming to be a work in progress. I have been very fortunate to have played and recorded with some amazing musicians including The Jacksons, Dan Aykroyd, Clarence Clemons, members of Bad Company and many others. I have recording credits on several platinum and gold records in the U.S. and Japan. My drumming has been heard on commercials for Burger King,Heaven Scent, PSA Airlines, Cal Worthington Ford, Micro Soft, ESPN and many others.. I have taught drumset and snare drum for over 25 years and still enjoy it as much today as the day I first started. I like to think of my teaching style as “seriously-fun”. Educational with a an element of fun with the objective being result driven.I have students who have performed in the Rose Bowl Parade, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as many local high school marching, concert and jazz bands. Every year since starting at Moeller-Willis Music I have helped students reach their goals to make Jazz Band, Concert Band and Honor Band. I am well versed in rock, latin and jazz styles for drumset. My goal as a drum teacher is to guide the student drummer to be his or her best on the drums, whatever style they choose to go.

Since moving to Cincinnati to attend CCM in 2007, Stephen Patota has been an extremely active member of the music scene. Busy as a performer, he has had the opportunity to play with such groups as The Happy Maladies, SHADOWRAPTR, Lazy Heart, Gorges, and Whitfield Crocker. With these ensembles, Stephen has toured throughout the nation and recorded numerous albums, all while focusing on developing a positive scene of new music here in Cincinnati. When he is not playing original music, Stephen finds time to keep a busy schedule of freelancing as a guitarist and bassist, allowing him the chance to engage with musicians and constantly learn new and exciting music. As a composer and arranger, his work has been performed by classical chamber ensembles, modern jazz collectives, and punk bands. For the past three years, Stephen has dedicated much of his efforts to teaching. He has had the privilege of working at summer camps and giving lectures at Universities, but mostly he enjoys developing his own method of private instruction. Having taught at Madeira Music School, Willis Music, and privately, Stephen has developed years of experience working with students of all ages and backgrounds. He has taught jazz, rock, blues, country, folk, and various styles of pop, working with each student to pursue his or her own stylistic interests. A lifelong student of music, Stephen is constantly seeking new ways to expand his style of teaching. He finds great joy in helping his students challenge themselves to keep learning and growing. Stephen emphasizes a strong foundation of musicianship through singing and ear training, while encouraging his students to learn the joys of reading music. With these fundamental skills, his students can be free to explore the many aspects of music in which they are interested. He would love to work with you!
